Design Sprints: The bigger picture (Online Meetup)

Details

UPDATE: Attendance tomorrow will go on first come, first served basis.

The Design Sprint - you know what the power of this method is and you can recite the daily schedule in your sleep. You have definitely participated in one, and maybe even facilitated one yourself. We know that companies of all sizes have been using the Design Sprint process to enable them to go-to-market faster with products and features. Some have even been modifying it to get significant results in shorter times than ever.

So, let's have a look at the bigger picture around the method and see how else it can transform organisations and teams. How can it help with shaping a new way of working in your team? How can it help with strategic challenges in your organisation? Can you really tailor it to other contexts?

For this meetup we have invited two speakers who have many sprints under their belt, and have dared to play with its building blocks and adapt it to their needs and challenges.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

  • Margriet Buseman (Orange Minds)

Having run 90+ Design Sprints with Orange Minds, I have seen the power of the Design Sprint many times. Not only in terms of output but also the impact on a team in a new way of working. So I was curious, can the Design Sprint really transform the way large companies work? To understand this better I spoke with PwC, Tetra Pak, Pearson and IBM who have all run 50+ Design Sprints internally to indeed change the way the organisation looks at innovation and digitalization. I’d like to share my lessons learned.

  • Maarten van den Heuvel (Go Weekly)

After running ‘regular’ Design Sprints for over 5 years we’re now applying our experience to other types of tailored Sprints. These Design Sprint inspired projects focus on strategic, conceptual and team related challenges. I’d like to discuss ways in which organisations can amend the methodology to their needs while preserving the mindset and aspects that make the Design Sprint such a successful tool for innovation.

ABOUT THE ORGANISERS:

Hike One | Digital Product Design

We design digital applications that people love to use. Our team of 70 covers every aspect of user experience and user interface design. We have been fans of Design Sprints ever since Jake Knapp published his now famous book. We love to share our experiences with the design community and learn from them in return — that is why we initiate and support these Meetups.

Robbie Farrell | UX Designer at Booking.com

In my 10 year career as a designer, both in digital agencies and corporates (Intel, IBM, Booking.com), I have always been a big advocate for design thinking and Design Sprints. I've spent hundreds of hours facilitating and participating in various types of workshops. I love sharing what I’ve learned over the years and continuing to learn from others. This aligned to Hike One’s goal for these sessions and we decided to work together.
