HUNTER ISLAND February 5, 2012 - Sunday
12:30pm Meet at the Orchard Beach Nature Center (On the Boardwalk)
We will be taking a Hiking Tour on Hunter Island in the Bronx, not to be confused by Hunter Mountain located Upstate. We will be led by Urban Park Rangers to parts rarely seen and visited by the public. The hike is MODERATE and not recommeded to those who have will difficulty hiking/walking for over 2 hours in cold weather. HIKE at your own risk.
Estimated duration of the Hike: 2 to 3 hours
NOTE: Please dress appropriately for the weather and for the physical activity. Wear the proper shoes, bring snacks and water. SPF protection also recommeded.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Without inclement weather/rain, there should be plenty of outdoor natural light. Please outfit your equipment for cold weather. Bring the proper camera bags suitable for outdoor conditions and hiking.
Feel free to bring binoculars.
CANCELLATION NOTICE will be immediately provided to everyone ASAP if the venue decides to cancel the hiking tour.

****This will be a guided group event and may be difficult to make any delays in the hiking schedule due to late arrivals, so please try to make it on time. ****

Directions:
By car: From the south: take I-95 (Bruckner Expressway) North. Get off at Exit 8B (Orchard Beach/City Island). Go pass the war memorial, over the Pelham bridge, and make the first right at the traffic light immediately following the drawbridge (taking the yield sign). This will put you on City Island Road. Continue to the Traffic circle and follow the traffic circle three quarters of the way around, following the signs for Orchard Beach. Continue to the Orchard Beach parking lot. Walk to the boardwalk and turn left. Continue to the Nature Center at Section 2 of the Beach. The distance is about 200 Yards.
From the west: Take Pelham Parkway East all the way to the end, where it turns into Shore Road. Follow the above directions from the drawbridge.
Public transportation: Take the Bx12 and Bx5 buses
You will be home in time for the SUPERBOWL
