Measuring a room with ARKit: experiences and challenges

Three iOS devs, 3 days and 1 project: building a prototype to measure a room in real time through the device camera. The key technology to enable this is the new Augmented Reality SDK available for all capable iOS devices since iOS 11, called ARKit. We woud like to share our experiences, demo our prototype and discuss challenges, limitations and opportunities for all iOS devs wanting to leverage this new technology.

About the speakers:

• Adrian Tineo (@atineoSE) is Ph.D. in Computer Science. He works as iOS developer at Scout24 Switzerland, where he devotes himself to the ImmoScout24 iOS app. His interests lie in architecture, clean code, best practices, and testing. He is passionate about the way mobile is eating the world and the chances that poses for developers. When he is not thinking about where to put his delegate methods, he strives to balance yin and yang at qigongforliving.com
• Jan Böhler is a Software engineer who grew up in Canton Bern. For 6 years his main work is developing iOS Apps. Currently, he is working for Scout24 Switzerland in the Mobile Team. To get the mind free of coding he spends time in the mountains with snowboarding and hiking or makes a trip with a tent and bicycle.
• Terence Alberti originally from Ticino, worked for more than 5 years at Scout24 Switzerland mainly as iOS developer, on Anibis, Immoscout24 and Autoscout24. He's now trying a new challenge at the SBB AG. In the free time he spends time doing different sport activities.
