Important Information

This is a canoe camping trip where we paddle each day and sleep in tents at DEC Primitive campsites which are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/41282.html#Rules

Participants must supply their own food, bear canister, stove, tent, backpack, bed roll, first aid kit, map, canoe, life jacket, rain gear, and all other necessary gear.

While we hope for good weather, prepare for paddling in the rain. You'll need a rain jacket, pants base layer and knit hat; and you will likely still get wet in a heavy or prolonged rain. A wool base layer is recommended as it will insulate you even if wet. Unprepared canoeists can and will get hypothermia.

Solo and tandem canoeists are welcome. If you are solo and want to ride tandem, make it known and I will attempt to pair you with someone.

A lightweight kevlar canoe (including PFD and paddles) can be rented for $65/day at from Raquette River (who will be providing the shuttle service) https://raquetteriveroutfitters.com/rentals/

Our exact meeting location and time will be determined once we know the trip participants and number of cars/drivers.

We'll use a paid shuttle service. Most cars will be left at the end point. The shuttle will transport up to 4 drivers and any rented canoes to the put in location. Upon completion, you can load your boat on your car and drive home. If there are any cars left in Long Lake, someone will drive you there.

Details and estimated cost of the shuttle will be determined later and will be payable to the Organizer prior to being moved to the final Going List. The shuttle fee will be non-refundable unless the Organizers approve a replacement paddler. Participants will need to arrange their own canoe and other gear rental.

Voluntary Donation: $15 (to help offset Organizer fees charged by Meetup)
