Cartic Ramakrishnan (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/cartic-ramakrishnan/6/430/b63) and Pablo Mendes (http://pablomendes.com/) will present applications drawn from a variety of domains such as Biomedical Informatics, Social Network Analysis and others. Pablo will discuss DBpedia Spotlight in depth.

He develops NLP and Machine Learning solutions to a variety of problems in Computational Advertising. He has a background in NLP and Machine Learning applied to Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web research. Prior to Datapop, Cartic did his post doctoral research at the Information Sciences Institute, University of Southern California. Cartic has also worked at IBM Research (summer 2006) and the National Library of Medicine (summer 2002, 2004). Cartic received his computer science doctorate in 2008, graduating from the Kno.e.sis Center at Wright State University.

Pablo has worked for 5 years as a Research Assistant at the University of Georgia and at the Kno.e.sis Center at Wright State University. He also worked as an intern at Yahoo! Search in California (summer 2008) and Yahoo! Research Barcelona (summer 2009). In the last two years Pablo worked at the Freie Universität Berlin conducting research within the European-funded LOD2 Project and the European Network of Excellence PlanetData. His research focuses on the extraction, integration and exploration of (structured and unstructured) information on the Web and, in particular, of Linked Data. Automation;
