New Year's Day Nature Hike
Details
Join me for a New Year exploration of a fairly new trail that I have wanted to hike for awhile.
As described by Heartland Conservancy:
"With only three high-quality old growth forests remaining in the St. Louis Metro East region, HeartLands Conservancy provided and permanent conservation protection technical assistance to the City of Edwardsville to acquire the property next door* to Bohm Woods State Nature Preserve.
We assist with stewardship, promoting volunteer opportunities, and expanding the community’s knowledge of this rare natural area." *Drda Woods is the property next door (5404 Poag Rd.) which was acquired and is now being restored, but has a connecting dirt trail which we can explore.
"The trail is approximately a 2 mile loop with variable terrain. There are some stream crossings, a few foot bridges, and occasional a creek hop.
There are no restrooms or other facilities at Bohm Woods."
Wear appropriate shoes and winter wear and bring water. If desired we can also visit the SIUE garden trail across the street.
