Tour of Passive Solar Greenhouse plus Edible, Native & Naturalized Landscape

Why build a passive solar greenhouse instead of a typical one? Why is the house shaped differently? What are all the barrels for? Why does it produce high quality plants? These questions and more will be answered. With only solar gain to heat it and manual vents to cool it, M R Gardens’ 800 square foot greenhouse stays ideal growing conditions despite wide fluctuations in outside temperatures. The building’s design also prevents the interior from overheating. It’s ventilated even on the coldest of winter days in sunny weather.

We’ll then briefly tour the edible, native and naturalized landscape, in which M R Gardens hosts a year-long program in which participants grow their food together and learn about sustainable landscaping. The hour-long tour includes a brief discussion of the rainwater collection system. Cost is $5 per person.
