Tour the McCommas Bluff Landfill

Yup, that's right. Landfill means 'dump'. This is the second opportunity we've been given in the upcoming months to see what happens past our curbside pickup. If you consider yourself to be 'green' then you should get a good grip on the 'rest of the story' to quote the great Paul Harvey.

This event is being offered up in conjunction with the City of Dallas and the North Texas Council of Governments. Read on for the specific information.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition and the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) would like to invite you to tour the McCommas Bluff Landfill facility in Dallas! The tour will take place on Tuesday, July 17th from 9am to approximately noon.
The McCommas Bluff landfill is an award-winning, professionally engineered and highly regulated landfill operating in southern Dallas. It is the only landfill in the State of Texas to achieve certifications for environmental management and quality management. Among its many other awards, in 2010, the U.S. Conference of Mayors awarded Dallas its Green City Award for the city's landfill gas management project.
You will learn how methane gas is captured, cleansed, and processed. Attendees will be exploring the McCommas Bluff in a school bus provided by Dallas County Schools, who operates the 5th largest school bus fleet in the country powered primarily by propane and biodiesel. The bus tour will take about an hour, followed by a short presentation at the facility.
Parking is limited at the landfill and attendees are encouraged to meet at the NCTCOG offices at 9am to board the bus to the facility. Space is limited so reserve your free spot here: mccommastour.eventbrite.com.
