Stream Processing with Apache Kafka and .NET, with Niels Berglund

Details

The first session of 2022! And we're really lucky to have Neils Berglund, an MS data platform MVP and software architect, and well known speaker at tech conferences. The talk will take place online on Zoom - a link will be sent out to attendees shortly before the event.

Abstract:
We start with an overview of Apache Kafka, and what stream processing is. This is followed by looking at the internals of Kafka. In the internals we look at partitions, and how we achieve scalability and performance by consumer groups. After having picked up knowledge around Kafka we look at how to publish and consume messages using .NET, and the Confluent .NET client. We finish this demo filled session by looking at some examples of stream processing.

Speaker Bio:
Niels is a Microsoft Data Platform MVP and works as Software Architect Lead at Derivco in Durban South Africa. He develops software as well as "dreaming" up new and innovative ways to use existing and new technologies.

Niels has been working with SQL Server since SQL Server 4.2, and co-authored the first SQL Server 2005 book for developers: "A First Look at SQL 2005 for Developers". Apart from being a SQL Server "nerd" he is now quite interested in real-time streaming data, and stream-processing, as well as the Cloud and Big Data. He blogs regularly about these topics at https://nielsberglund.com.

He is a sought after presenter at technology conferences and has presented at, amongst others: Tech-ED, SQL PASS, DevWeek, SQL Bits, SQL Saturday, etc.
