NaNoWriMo
“The looming specter of personal humiliation is a very reliable muse.” -

“Hot, dark, strong, caffeine-filled moments poured into letters, syllables, words twined and twisted around vignettes, stories, epics…” – Audrea Elliott
See what I mean? But November is almost here and those 50,000 words that you will write in a single month are taunting you.
Writing 50,000 words in one month is a daunting task for any writer. Santa Cruz has many writers interested in participating in NaNoWriMo and the Santa Cruz branch of the California Writers Club is able to help.

The Catamaran Literary Magazine
http://www.catamaranliteraryreader.com - Join the mailing list. A Kickstarter campaign has been launched and there is a reward for writers. For $35 they can back the print magazine and help keep literary publishing alive with this new publication, but with the $35 reward they also get to "join the editorial board" and become a "content creator". This allows them to publish their writing in the Catamaran blog as well as get a subscription for inspiration. The new blog will only be open to past contributors to the print magazine and the Catamaran's editorial staff...and to our writer friends who back us for this reward. Here's our link:

FYI
Southern California Writers' Conference (http://www.writersconference.com/la/)
Dates: September 20-22
Location: Newport Beach, California
Cost: $395 (full conference/ "Novel Cram")
Description: Unlike conferences aimed to lure as many aspiring authors as possible with big-name superstars far removed from the realities of breaking into a now fickle publishing world, or with agents & editors who participate only on the condition that they MUST request a specified percentage of conferees' submitted material — whether or not they're genuinely interested — in order to be invited back, the SCWC is first and foremost about the writer. Where s/he is today. Where s/he wants to be tomorrow.
SOLVE problematic aspects of your manuscript through the troubleshooting efforts of accomplished authors, editors and agents INTERACT with working professionals from the publishing, film, and transmedia industries in a uniquely accessible environmentEMPOWER yourself with the tools and tactics needed to succeed in today's expanding transmedia marketplace
