In addition to their regular series at the Baxter, the Cape Town Concert Series is occasionally invited to collaborate with artists in other venues for a more intimate concert experience.
On Saturday 9th September, with support from the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra there will be a morning of Music and Conversation with cellist Torleif Thedéen and pianist Luis Magalhaes at 6 Spin Street Gallery in Cape Town - which offers a very different upclose and personal experience to the usual concert hall.
Swedish cellist Torleif Thedéen is one of the most distinguished instrumentalists in Europe and enjoys an international profile as a recitalist, concerto soloist, recording artist and pedagogue. His week in Cape Town includes opening the CPO Spring Symphony Season at the City Hall on 7th September, presenting masterclasses for young cello students through the CPYO and then this recital with pianist Luis Magalhaes, with whom he performed earlier this year at the Theatro Circo, Braga - Portugal.
Their programme will include works by Schumann, Schubert and Shostakovich and then Torleif will chat about his life and work in music and answer questions from the audience. You can also get to see up close his special cello - the 1783 Guadagnini cello on loan from the Norwegian Dextra foundation, previously owned by cello legend Mstislav Rostropovich.
Tickets are limited and include a welcome tea/coffee and also entry to a new art exhibition opening after the concert from 2pm by artist Yanga CoolG Lingani. There will also be wine for sale.
