Vetter Mountain ( Easy Hike )

We're meeting at Sports Chalet 1st at 6am & be at the trailhead before 7am ( hopefully ).
This is an easy 3-mile round trip hike to the peak of Vetter Mountain ( 5908' )where a lookout tower stands.

Along the way, we cross the famous Silver Moccasin Trail ( which I would like to post someday ) with great views of the San Gabriels. If we choose to leave a car right after the intersection of Angeles Crest Hwy & Big Tujunga, then we can descend from 5560' to 4750' along part of the Silver Moccasin Trail adding 3 miles to our existing 3, making it a 6-mile roundtrip hike. Directions: take the 210 fwy, exit La Canada/ Flintridge, turn south, then east ( gas station ) into the Town Center ( Sports Chalet ) & turn right, up the upper parking lot. We will meet here at 6am and depart at 6:10am.
ALERT! Bring a hooded rain jacket or windbreaker in your car in case you need to stuff it in your pack. If it's drizzling or raining, there will be snow up there. Also, be sure to have descent tread on your tires.
My wife & I were there 12/29/2012, and it was only drizzling at 8:30am, and snow quickly changed the scenery. It was great. But be prepared. We didn't need snow chains but we drove slowly down the road.
