Iron Mountain #1 is said to be the toughest, most strenuous single peak hike in the San Gabriel Mountains. No water source available, it's 14 miles roundtrip, 7200 feet of elevation gain and the summit is at 8007 feet . During summer, 6 liters of water is recommended, & 4 on cooler days. This is definitely not for beginners and demands great physical shape but persistence & perseverance will get intermediate hikers to the summit. Iron Mountain (#1) lays in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness and offers tremendous breathtaking views, once you catch your breath. Caution if you travel alone, this is prime mountain lion habitat. Distance: 15.8 miles
