Nuclear power is supplying almost 60% of Ontario’s energy needs, without emitting greenhouse gases. Have you ever wondered what kind of engineering and design work goes into nuclear technology? Or
how workers stay safe from radiation?

The ATS Nuclear Engineering group is excited to host the March Girl Geek Dinner with a workshop on Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA). The workshop will show you how to use a key design tool that allows engineers to plan for any situation - including failures. Failures related to nuclear sound scary - but we’re here to debunk some myths about radiation and demonstrate the rigor that goes behind engineering in the industry. You will also be able to calculate your own radiation dose and find out how radiation affects humans and machines.

After dinner, you will have the opportunity to tour our shop floor and see firsthand some of the state-of-the-art technology we use to refurbish nuclear reactors.

Workshop Facilitators:

Courtney Stafford, Mechanical Technologist - Nuclear Engineering
Teresa Thibodeau, Nuclear Engineer - Nuclear Engineering
