About the topics and the speakers:

Jason (Jay) Seawall Bio and Presentation Topic:

Bio: Jason Seawall has over 20 years of experience related to smart sensor and robotic inspection technologies, working on both industrial and defense applications. Jason was a research engineer at both the Applied Research Laboratory in Texas and the Applied Physics Laboratory in Washington working on defense robotics and smart sensors. He founded and sold BlueView, a robotic smart sensor company to Teledyne in 2012 and took the role of VP of Technology in their marine division leading innovation between over twenty five internal sensor, software, and robotics groups. In 2017, Jason co-founded Numurus to focus on smart system solutions for robotic inspection and maintenance applications.

Presentation Topic: The Numurus Edge Platform Interface (NEPI) is an enterprise software ecosystem that supports the rapid deployment of Industry 4.0 functionality such as AI and Cloud connectivity into customer product offerings. The NEPI ecosystem combines Edge-side management software and a secure IoT backbone with Cloud-side portal solutions. NEPI also offers a library of Edge and Cloud hosted third-party software offerings that further enhance the platform and tailor solutions for specific markets. With NEPI's device side ROS interface, ROS developers can rapidly transform their technologies into smart AI and Cloud enabled solutions.

Lucas Walter Bio and Presentation Topic:

Bio: Lucas has been using ROS for about a decade while working as a software engineer on automation and inspection projects, and have given talks numerous times at previous iterations of ROS Seattle.

Presentation Topic: ros1_lifecycle provides a component lifecycle implementation for ROSv1. Lifecycle provides the abstract classes for implementing Life-cycle mechanism to application nodes. See ROS2 Managed Nodes for a comprehensive description of the core concepts of Node life-cycle.
