Come along to another evening of Drupal Learning, an evening for all of you who sometimes feel that there are things you don't know about Drupal!

Adopt or hack. How to hack a theme in a Drupal way

When you are starting with Drupal, you rely on what has been built before. Sometimes, you spend a lot of time searching for the perfect theme, that will fit perfectly to your needs, but only in rare occasions you will find the right one without making compromises.
I will show you, how not to be afraid of making small changes through CSS, little HTML, to make it your way, without loosing the ability to upgrade later. A kickstart in the right direction to understand CSS and Drupal theming.

A git workflow for Drupal core development

Drupal core development is scary to newcomers for lots of reasons, but it doesn't need to be. I have done some mentoring at Camps, Sprints, and Drupalcons, and often I see people struggling with git, or not using some of its features that make life easier. In this session, I will introduce git's basic concepts, with particular focus on those that I have found most useful for Drupal contribution and for client work.
I will then demonstrate how git's cheap branching and distributed workflow can simplify and accelerate your development.
You'll learn about - why you should branch often - how to apply a patch and add your changes to it, then contribute them back - how to keep track of your core contributions, create patches, use git to make writing tests easier, and how to create interdiffs - how to use git to go back to any point in Drupal's history, easily.
By the end of this session, you should feel more confident with git and be excited to start using it to help you contribute to core.
