Andrew Harmel-Law - Open Spaces Vs Eyes Front Events:
To many delegates, the most valuable part of conferences are the "hallway conversations". Wouldn't it be great if you could put on events which were solely made up of just that? How awesome would it be if everyone was a speaker? Open Spaces a great way to achieve just that.
Andrew Harmel-Law has both participated in, and put on many Open Spaces conferences in both the UK and in the US over the last 15 years; and to say they've changed his life wouldn't be an exaggeration. In this session Andrew will explain what an Open Spaces conference is (and what it's not), argue strongly the case that dropping the speakers, the slides and the auditorium seating is a massive win, and explain how to put on an event that is a great success.
About Andrew:
Andrew Harmel-Law is a Tech Principal Consultant with ThoughtWorks. He has a particular interest in setting teams up for success; loves sharing, teaching and mentoring; encouraging diversity in tech; and organising conferences of all shapes and sizes.
Andrew started out as a speaker at traditional "eyes front" conferences - at large developer conferences such as Devoxx UK, Scala Xchange, JavaZone and Microsoft's Future:Decoded. Subsequent to this he appeared on some panels, before being asked to convene the Devoxx UK Culture and Methodology and Programming Languages Tracks. Parallel to this, he has been a strong advocate for Unconference / Open Spaces style events - most notably bringing the Java Posse Roundup to the UK two years in a row. @al94781 (https://twitter.com/al94781)

Maria Keenan - "Why You Should Give Tickets Away for Free (No, Really)"
Maria has a depth of experience in speaking to customers first hand on strategies when it comes to involving the community and underrepresented groups at their events/promoting diversity.
All of them have either set up formal scholarship programs, have set aside diversity donation tickets, use student tickets or use buy-one-get-one-free promos to fill their audiences and attract (hopefully) returning attendees.
She will discuss that as an ethical marketing strategy with a few practical examples
