brAInstorm Talk#4: AI & Ethics - Benefits and Risks of AI systems

As cliched as this sounds now, AI has the potential to “change the world”. Given the accessible computer power and fast AI developments, it is obvious that this change is going to be rapid and at scale. In turn, AI built for scale and speed can also create harm. Therefore, understanding Artificial Intelligence benefits, risks, ethics, and safety is key to develop better AI systems. This talk will explore innovative ways in which rules can be applied to ensure ethical behavior in AI.

SEBASTIAN DENNERLEIN, PH.D.
PostDoc Researcher @TU Graz and Business Developer @Know-Center
Sebastian is a Senior Researcher in Co-Creation and Innovation at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) and Business Developer at Know-Center GmbH. At TU Graz, he initiated the successful Digitale TU Graz Marketplace Innovation Program and proposes methods for responsible innovation building upon psychological theories (psychology of entrepreneurship): e.g. framework for the socio-technical reflection of ethical principles. He studied Psychology at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz and did his Ph.D. in the area of Technology-Enhanced Learning and Workplace Learning in distributed and collaborative contexts. Interprofessional learning and related challenges were one of the factors given special interest in this endeavor. In his previous experience, Sebastian was Deputy Head of the “Social Computing” research team at the Know-Center GmbH (leading the team as deputy for 1 1/2 year) and working in several EU-IPs such as Learning Layers (topic: scaling of technologies for informal learning in SME clusters).

DI CHRISTOF WOLF-BRENNER, MA
Consultant @Know-Center
Christof holds a Master's degree in both Business Informatics and Innovation Management and is currently studying Philosophy, with a special focus on technology in general and AI in particular.
As part of the Know-Center's Data Services department, he is responsible for conducting creativity workshops, training, and managing customer projects. In addition to many years as a consultant, he can draw on a wealth of first-hand experience as an accountant, key user, developer, and IT administrator.
