Bioelectricity project meetup

Details

This project meetup will provide the opportunity to delve deeper into discussions, planning and prototyping of ideas, and the establishment of project groups in topics related to bio electricity, e.g. Bacterial fuel cells, or making electricity from plants and what to run off these. Several project ideas have been discussed at previous meetings and one project is already planned for further discussion. If you have other project ideas related to the topic of bioelectricity, please share it in the comments below, and also say if there are specific skills you hope to find in other project partners. This meeting is open to all, but organised for those who want to get involved in one of the projects. A variety of skills will be needed to move these projects forward, from organisation, communication and reativity through to specific technical skills. However, the most important thing will be plenty of good old enthusiasm, so whatever your skill set come prepared to get involved!

• What to bring:
We'll provide some papers, pens etc. Please bring along any technogies or prototyping materials that you might like to use or talk to others about.

• Project ideas:
One project idea to be discussed is the setup of a citizen science project to help gather more information and data about microbial and plant-microbial fuel cells. In previous discussions, it was felt that the starting point is to design and build a fuel cell unit that people can (and will want to) set up in their own homes. A few of the questions to be answered are: What will this unit look like? How can we encourage the public to get involved? E.g. What could it power? What data do we want to collect? What sensors should be included in the setup? How can we collect data?

• Additional information:
Information from previous Norwich Biomakers meetups on this topic can be found through the following link (including presentations from both Paolo Bombelli and Julea Butt, instructions for making plant-microbial fuel cells and a spreadsheet to record your results): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1lmgiYtLckEkp7mdeA0xYIucXT_x5ecn4?usp=sharing
