Linux on IBM Z Meetup - December 7th 2018 - Verisk in Jersey City

The theme of the December 7th council is the economics of running private cloud on the Linux on IBM Z / LinuxONE systems. The event will kick off with a discussion about the exciting news from IBM regarding our recent RedHat acquisition. The following presentation will talk about Rockhopper II Solution Bundles. These bundles consist of cleverly packaged combinations of hardware and software that will be offered to run in the 16U reserved space in the new 19 inch rack format.

Next, Ruviano Martinez will continue the IBM Cloud Private Discussion with IBM Cloud Private on LinuxONE – Comparison to x86 Deployment. This presentation will discuss the results of a series of tests to compare ICP on IBM Z & LinuxONE versus an Intel x86 server, sharing details on performances tests, giving the audience a clear understanding of why IBM Z and LinuxONE are superior platforms for ICP compared to x86.

After the break, Craig Bender will present research from the IBM Competitive Office in his presentation, Labor Observations for LinuxONE. Here he will discuss common practices that drive more overhead for IT staff in x86 environments compared to LinuxONE. This session will examine these practices and discuss labor savings benefits of LinuxONE compared to distributed servers. Afterwards Monte Bauman from IBM, will discuss the new innovations with the recent IBM LinuxONE GA2 Driver announcement. Before heading off for lunch we are excited to have students from Touro University to discuss the projects they are working on as part of their mainframe curriculum. The day will conclude with Lunch at Dorians Restaurant next door. (Address below)
