The NYC Japanese Language November Meetup - Japanese-English Speed Dating!

The November J-Meetup will be Japanese-English Speed Dating!

The purpose of this event is not limited to find your dates, but also to seek your language exchange partners and new friends. Therefore, you don't have to be single to participate. If you are already married or have a partner, use this opportunity to practice your target language (Japanese or English)

By participating, the members will have the opportunity to introduce themselves each other in Japanese. However, if you are an ESL student who wants to improve your English communication skills or prefer to talk in English, please feel free to do so.

Time: 8pm - 10:30pm (Speed Dating will begin at 8:30pm and end at 9:30pm)
Cost: $5 - @ Door

Basic "jikoshoukai" (Introducing yourself)

1. Konnichiwa / Konbanwa! (hi/good evening)

2. Watashi wa / Watashi no namae wa your name desu. (namae = name)

ex. Watashi wa Yoijoho desu. (I am Yoijoho)

3. Watashi wa your country jin desu. e.g. America jin = American person

ex. Watashi wa Nihon jin desu. (I am Japanese)

4. Watashi wa dokushin desu. (I am single)

5. Douzo yoroshiku onegai shimasu. (Nice to meet you)

Rule of the Game

The participants will sit in pairs to begin their first 8 minute date to discuss anything they want in Japanese or in English.

After 8 minutes, you will hear a whistle, and one of each pair move on to meet their next date.

Following each date, the participants will note in their cell phone whether they would have an interest in talking to their date again.

After completing the speed dating game, the participants will go look for the person whom they are interested in speaking again. If a mutual interest is noted, each party will exchange phone numbers.
