Virtual Coding Meetup
Hosted by SpotCoders — Git Good at Programming
Details
SpotCoders is an online meetup for beginner and intermediate programmers looking to improve their speed and accuracy by working through interview-style programming problems. We'll be using JavaScript and TypeScript (your choice). Some exercises will use React.
SpotCoders is hosted in Spot, a virtual office & event platform! Spot is like a cross between Zoom and a 3D video game. You can check Spot out at https://www.spotvirtual.com/. When you RSVP, you'll see the link to join the Spot world.
- (7.5 minutes) Meet and greet with the whole group.
- (2.5 minutes) Split into teams of 3. You're also welcome to work by yourself if you find you learn better that way.
- (5 minutes) Introduction to the problems — this is your chance to ask questions before we begin. There will be two problems, one for the beginner teams and one for the intermediate teams.
- (50 minutes) Work on the problem with your team. Sam will rotate between the different teams to see how you're doing and offer help if you get stuck.
- (25 minutes) Come back together as a group and show off what you did! We'll review the code together and point out what worked well and what could be improved.
We'll be using CodeSandbox, a free online code editor, so there's no need to set up any software on your PC. You'll also need a microphone and ideally headphones — webcam is entirely optional.
If you've never written code before, you should go through some JavaScript tutorials before attending this meetup. If you're already a professional software engineer who has advanced past the junior level, you're probably too advanced for this meetup but are still welcome to attend if you want to help others.
The meetup is led by Sam Magura, a staff software engineer with over 5 years of industry experience.
