Got plans for Labor Day? If not, join us for a paddle to Fort Meyers Beach. Calusa Waterkeeper and FDOH Water report that the water quality at Fort Meyers Beach is very good - all green on water quality map.

We will paddle from Bunche Beach, through the mangrove tunnels, and then we will cross the Matanzas boat channel in the slow zone, a little closer to the bridge than we normally cross. Holidays require extra caution when crossing channels because of heavier boat traffic. We will continue on past Bowditch Point to the Fort Meyers Beach pier, where we can spend some time relaxing on the beach. Our route will be 8-miles total.

I am starting early so we can get parking and avoid some of the afternoon heat and thunderstorms. The kayak parking area is now open, and as of last month, no parking fee was required. This will be a Level 2/3 paddle. Bring your spray skirt in case there is unexpected wind.

Please arrive early enough so that you are ready to launch at 09:30. Bring a beach lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. Bring a camp chair or beach towels. I will bring my tarp for shade.

Just a reminder that the leaders of Calusa Sea Kayakers are not professional guides or instructors. We are just peers who enjoy paddling together. Kayaking, like all water sports, involves risk of injury or death. Your life jacket must be worn on the water at all times - no exceptions.
