Details of the Talk

Title: Building a Decentralised Ecosystem

Introduction: This talk will be about why complete Decentralisation and Immutability matters for public blockchains, and why it is impossible to have one without the other.

This will be used as the basis to discuss the consequences of the recent Ethereum Hard Fork, and what it could mean for the viability and integrity of the platform and its dapp developers.

Speaker: Dr. Avtar Sehra

Bio: Avtar has a PhD in Theoretical Physics and research experience in computational engineering. Since leaving academia Avtar has held leadership positions in investment banking and consulting, specialising in quantitative finance, risk management, technology, and product management. Avtar is now the founder, CEO and chief product architect in Nivaura, a company developing digital platform solutions to manage the full lifecycle of decentralized smart financial assets.

History of the Blockchain:

1) Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin, the worlds first decentralised digital currency, and introduced the concept of a Blockchain - January 3, 2009

2) Vitalik Buterin created Ethereum, the worlds first decentralised smart contract Blockchain - July 30, 2015
3) The DAO, a smart contract decentralised investment fund is created - May 28, 2016
4) The DAO is hacked, and 3.6 mill of ETH is misappropriated due to inadequate risk controls by deployment team - June 17, 2016
5) Ethereum Foundation members support Hard Fork action to reallocate The DAO investor funds and month long debate ensues - 17 June 2016
6) ArVicco (@bitnovosti) initiates decentralised Ethereum Classic movement to uphold principles of decentralisation and immutability - 14 Jul 2016, 08:15:00 UTC
