A miscellaneous review of all things Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). We will be discussing the pros (http://rubysource.com/soa-for-the-little-guys/) and the cons (http://blog.8thlight.com/uncle-bob/2012/02/01/Service-Oriented-Agony.html) of this application design pattern. Starting off with a presentation by Brian and/or Siamion of the Typhoes (https://github.com/dbalatero/typhoeus) gem, an Ruby HTTP wrapper around libcurl for fast asynchronous service requests. Originally developed by the same author of the Service-Oriented Design with Ruby and Rails (http://www.amazon.com/Service-Oriented-Design-Rails-Addison-Wesley-Professional/dp/0321659368) book!

Ken Collins will followup with a review of Rails Engines and Railties and how mountable Rack applications can help deploy discrete components of services tied to a high level domain logic application.
