About us
We are a group of non-drinking singles, born 1960-1985, who live along or near the U.S. Highway 75 Corridor (Dallas, Garland, Richardson, Plano, Allen, McKinney), and who like to have good, clean fun without alcohol! Movies, dancing, museums, dinners, Shakespeare in the Park, and local festivals are just some of the things you can expect. All movies and other events are expected to be PG-13 or cleaner.
We have our group set up as "private" for security purposes. Anyone who fits the intended demographic group can join, but a relatively recent photo of you from which you can be recognized at events is required. We'd hate to miss you at one of our meetups just because we didn't know what you looked like! As a "private" meetup group, neither your profile picture nor group photos will be viewable by non-members.
Note that this group is for nice, clean-living people who consider themselves non-drinkers and non-drug-users, and our membership is actively managed. Anyone who is rude or mean, who trolls event or member pages making negative comments, or who "creeps out" other members (via e-mailing members they've never met; e-mailing, posting, or saying lewd or otherwise inappropriate things; posting naked, sexually suggestive, or otherwise inappropriate pictures; being part of swingers', poly, hook-up, or otherwise explicitly sexual groups (inside or outside of Meetup if we find out); being part of Satanic, occult, psychic, drum circle, mystic, or other "woo" groups; or with criminal histories) will be denied membership or removed from membership. Likewise, anyone who is a member of an alcohol-centric or drug-centric group, or who has alcohol or drugs listed in their interests, or who promotes the use of alcohol or drugs at our events, will be denied membership or removed from membership, since that kind of person is not a good fit for our group. Stalking, harassment, threats, rages, and any other bizarre behavior which poses a potential danger to others or which makes others uncomfortable are grounds for removal. We want this group to be a place where our members can feel comfortable and safe and find like-minded clean-living friends.
We hope you'll be a good fit for our group!
PS and PSA:
The World Health Organization now says that there is NO SAFE AMOUNT of alcohol one can consume. Alcohol is the cause of over 20,200 deaths from cancer per year in the US. Even if they drank no more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day for men or no more than 1 for women, alcohol would still cause over 3,400 deaths from cancer per year in the US. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10963036/#:~:text=45%20CFR%2046.-,Results,women's%20alcohol%2Dattributable%20cancer%20deaths.
And that is just cancer deaths, not all cancer cases due to alcohol -- and it doesn't even include deaths from car accidents, falls, or suicide related to alcohol. Nor does it reflect the divorces, other damaged relationships, bankruptcies, evictions, or job losses related to alcohol. Alcohol also causes liver failure, joint pain and deterioration, nutritional malabsorption, headaches, tooth decay (even tooth loss!), low T, other hormonal imbalances, osteoporosis, and depression.
That said, when an alcoholic stops drinking abruptly, that stoppage can cause not only DT, but also serotonin syndrome which can be fatal. If you drink regularly and want to quit, please do some research and talk to your doctor about the safest quitting method for you.
This group is NOT an alcohol or drug cessation program. It is for people who already don't drink and already don't do drugs, whether because they never did (most of us), or because they are drug-free and only rarely have one drink (even then, never at our events), or because they decided to completely prioritize healthy living and have quit all that totally. In any case, it is for people who want to live a healthy lifestyle and socialize with others who are like-minded.
