Moderate difficult, 20 kilometers (12.5 miles), 2 day trek. Cotopaxi is now open!! (up to the refugio). This trail goes from the heart of Cotopaxi park near Limpiopunga Lake at 3900 meters (12000) feet, then up 300 meters and down to 3000m at Machachi. Along the way this national park is famous for white-tailed deer, Brocket deer, rabbit, marsupial mouse, Andean Fox, llama and many wild horses. Machachi is an important dairy center and home of the chagra, the Ecuadorian cowboy. He can be seen riding in sheepskin or leather caps and a woolen poncho. Ecuador's traditional mineral water, Guitig or Tsalia comes from Machachi. The club has bags, mats and tents. Staff will cook Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast and trail lunch. Everyone must bring one liter of water for the cook! and Saturday lunch and trail snacks for themselves.
