Building with Biology Day @ Smithsonian NMNH

Details

The aim of the Building with Biology project is to create conversations in museums among scientists and public audiences about the emerging field of synthetic biology and its societal implications. The Building with Biology events and materials have been designed to stimulate these interactions, and focus not only on what synthetic biology is and how research in the field is carried out, but also on the potential products, outcomes, and implications of this work for society. Scientists and public participants will explore personal and societal values and priorities, as well as desired outcomes, so that both groups can learn from each other. This public engagement with science (PES) model emphasizes multidirectional learning, rather than a oneway transmission of knowledge from experts to the public.

Program Schedule:

10am - 2pm - Hands On Activities in Q?rius with local synthetic biologists (ages 8+)

2:30pm - 4:30pm Community Forum on "Should we Engineer the Mosquito?" (ages 18+ - this event filled up immediately, but there is a waitlist). If you are interested, I could borrow the materials and we could run a DIYbio-specific forum at Nova Labs or another venue later.
