Open Data Focus & Win Some Great Swag!
Details
Come along to our next session on OPEN DATA, including:
• Q&A with a Queensland Government Open Data Representative
• Jason Weigel will give an overview and Q&A for Govhack in July (https://www.govhack.org/)
• Enter the Open Data Viz Mashup comp to take home some great prizes courtesy of Tableau!
At this session, you'll learn what the Government is doing with Open Data, what is available, how to ask for specific data to be made available. Bring your questions and open data requests!
I've also got some fun Tableau swag (T-Shirts, books and more) to give away on the day! To get your hands on these hot little numbers, you just need to enter the Viz Mashup. The sooner you enter, the better your chances. The rules for entry are below... have a read and I look forward to seeing you in Fortitude Valley on the 25th!

Open Data Viz Mashup entry rules
• The first 10 eligible Viz's placed below will win!
• Data must be from a government open data source (local, state or federal).
• Viz must be about Queensland or a part of Queensland (eg Brisbane, mining, budgets etc.), the topic choice is yours based on the data you source.
• You need to post your Viz on Tableau Public and then post a link to it in the message board below (at the bottom of this page).
• First in, first choice! Eligible entrants get to select their preferred kit in order of entry. This includes a range of T-Shirts so get in early to get the best fit.
• Yes, if you're brimming with ideas you can enter more than once... but only one swag item will be issued per entrant.
• At the meetup you'll have the option to talk us through your Viz (max 5 mins)
• A separate prize that will be awarded to the best entry as judged by our Government Open Data Representative.
There are plenty of sources for Open Data, I have some listed on the resources section on the Key Data Consulting website (http://keydataconsulting.com.au/links-resources/) and there is also the Open Data Institute of Queensland website (http://queensland.theodi.org/).
Think of this as a warm up for Govhack 2016 (https://www.govhack.org/) in July!
See you there?
Dave.
To help anyone that needs it I have placed some good data links and a demo video on my blog (http://keydataconsulting.com.au/open-data-viz-starter/)to help get started.
The very simple sample workbook is available on Tableau Public here (https://public.tableau.com/shared/872G53MWQ?:display_count=yes)
I have placed this link in a comment below to show how you enter and get some swag from the pic above!
I have also added a piccy of the swag available above, several "Tableau for Dummies" books and T-Shirts, you only need to produce a viz and place in here to get one of these.
See you Wednesday Night!
