Marisa started salsa and ballroom dancing (in Tokyo) while recovering from Spinal Cord Infarction, a severe nervous disease which laid her paralyzed from the neck down. Understanding and experiencing the physical, emotional, and spiritual rehabilitative benefits of dancing through her own recovery, Marisa recently taught social dancing to a group of individuals affected with Parkinsons disease through an organization named “Parkinsons in Balance”, over an extended period of time. As a dance instructor, Marisa has a mission to share the joy of dancing with the community and to help people build confidence and reach their personal and professional goals through dancing. As a dancer, performer, and choreographer, Marisa hopes to continue to grow and challenge herself in ways she is yet to discover.
