Exploring networking with celluloid, or do we still need EventMachine?

With all the improvements in MRI, could we start sunsetting complicated EventMachine networking stacks for plain Ruby? Lets see how far we can push MRI by making a simple SMTP server with celluloid and comparing it with an EventMachine equivalent.
