From 0 to 1M Users: Guerilla Marketing for Startups
Details
The geeks are hosting Iris Shoor, co-founder and VP product and marketing at Takipi, a Cloud / BigData startup (still in stealth mode). Iris was co-founder and VP Product at VisualTao, a Sequoia backed startup acquired by Autodesk in 2009. Following the acquisition, Iris served as the Product line manager for Autodesk’s flagship web and mobile product line (AutoCAD WS) - bringing it from zero to 10M users in less than two years.

On this meetup Iris will share how the app her previous company developed reached 10M downloads with a very limited marketing budget. After a slow start and several unsuccessful attempts to use traditional social marketing they began employing unconventional marketing methods and within weeks our downloads rate and traffic increased significantly.
Key points
- How they increased their presence in the blogosphere (or how to convince hundreds of bloggers to write about your product even though they don’t find it interesting).
- Using your existing users as marketers (creating interesting marketing materials by working together with your users).
- Going global - how they 3X their downloads by localizing their marketing (with a very limited budget and running everything from Israel).
