Presenter: Fred Franken

About the Presenter: Fred Franken has over 15 years of experience in data analysis, primarily in the biomedical industry. His background includes work at the NIH, in the private sector, and in numerous academic research laboratories, including Oregon Health and Science University, where he earned his PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience in 2011. He currently works in the private sector as a scientist at Jubilant HollisterStier in Spokane, WA. He is also co-founder of ieMetrics, a local startup that develops R-integrated web applications for data management and analysis.

About the Presentation: Shiny Server and the Shiny package allow users to deploy interactive R applications as stand-alone web pages. This presentation covers the basic steps for deploying a Shiny server and integrating Shiny apps within larger web applications. Topics will include: setup of Shiny Open Source Server and Rstudio on a Digital Ocean droplet, connecting Shiny applications to SQL databases, reverse geocoding address databases in R, embedding shiny apps within a secured web page, passing server-side URL parameters to a shiny app, data visualization using Plotly and Leaflet, and utilization of Rmarkdown and DataTables for report generation.
