Located in the Sespe Wilderness of Los Padres National Forest, Ventura County California. We will start in the high semi-desert environment of the Sespe River watershed at the Piedra Blanca Trailhead, elevation 3060 feet. We will pass thru the awe-inspiring rock formations of the Piedra Blanca, and continue up the Gene Marshall trail, reaching 6000 feet at Pine Mountain Lodge camp. The trail is very steep in places but well worth the visit. This camp is nestled in the conifers and has a year-round spring close by.
We'll meet at the Rotary Park & Ride in Ojai at 8 am and carpool to the trailhead. Meet at 8 am sharp.

You must have hiked with the Thousand Oaks Hikers before to attend this event. No plus ones--everyone signs up for themselves. Hikers will be added from the waitlist.

Meeting Place: Rotary Park & Ride in Ojai, just east of HWY33/HWY150 intersection.
Put these coordinates in Google Maps to get directions/see location:
34°26'29.93"N, 119°15'35.72"W

Directions: Going north on HWY33, you'll reach a traffic signal where there's a "Y" split. HWY33 continues to the left, HWY150 continues straight.
Go through traffic signal to stay straight on HWY150, stay in right lane and turn immediate RIGHT into next driveway for the Park & Ride. No facilities at Park and Ride.

MEETUP DATE AND TIME: Saturday, 6 April 2013, 8.00 am
MEETUP PARKING FEE: No fee for parking at the Park & Ride at this time. Adventure Pass required at the trailhead in Rose Valley.

DISTANCE: 13 miles, out and back hike.
ELEVATION GAIN: About 3,000 feet of gain
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Some fire road, then single track with an extremely steep section. At least three water crossings of varying difficulty

NOTE: Due to the level of difficulty, dogs not recommended for this hike.
Rain or RED FLAG WARNING cancels the hike. We will reschedule if practical.
The Fine Print/Please Read!

You don't need to RSVP "NO" if you can't make it--let's save the "NOs" for the folks that wanted to go, then needed to change their minds.

WHAT TO BRING/WEAR:Wear lug soled shoes, long sleeve shirt and long pants for brush and tick protection, and dress in layers for comfort.
Bring at least 1 liter of water per 3 miles, snacks, lunch (if posted), hiking poles (if you use them), camera and the Ten Essentials--see here.
Carry rain gear if the rain forecast is 20 percent chance or better.

Know your own capabilities and plan accordingly.
No guests or "plus ones" please. For liability reasons we must have everyone join the group, and agree to the standard Meetup "Terms of Service", especially section 6.2, here.
