A Tribute to Don T Hike-Parker Mesa Overlook

Details

Many of us have hiked with Don T either with the TOaks Group or with the VHC.

Don was a longtime member and I know many hikers got to know him on the trails.

Let's celebrate life and Don T on this hike. Share a favorite Don T. memory. Many times Don carried his 9 lb. picnic table out to the Ovelook where we weighed it down with "good grub" as he would say. I remember one night out there 3 meetup groups (or more) convened for a rather wonderful raucous time.

Of course Don was there right in the middle having a great time.

We'll walk and talk and eat and drink! Maybe sing, dance, and tell a story or two.

Bring food, goodies, and a beverage to share.

We will leave at 10:00 am. If you arrive after 10:00 am you can meet us at the Overlook.

The first section of the trail meanders through a lovely oak grove with lush green grass. Above Trippet Ranch, the trail traverses the ridgeline between Topanga and Santa Ynez Canyons, with views of giant sandstone slabs and the ocean peaking out between the folds of the mountains.

The hike is 6 miles round trip with a 500' net elevation gain. Active beginners should do ok. What to Bring: It may be a bit windy/cold by the ocean, so wear a jacket/coat. I also stick a pair of gloves in my pocket just in case it's that nippy.

NO PLUS 1's. You must sign up for yourself.

DIRECTIONS:From the Ventura Freeway (101), exit at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, drive south over the crest of the mountains and proceed three miles to Entrada Road (not Entrado!) and turn left. Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park's main parking lot (about one mile)

From Pacific Coast Highway, travel north on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, pass the post office at the center of "town," then turn right on Entrada Road. Keep to the left at every opportunity until you reach the park's main parking lot (about one mile).

Parking is $10.00 (exact change) in Park. There is some street parking (free) outside of the park on the road.

Rain cancels the hike.
