Intro to sewing!

Details
DragonCon is coming up and I know a lot of Atlanta Crafters members are getting their costumes ready. For those who need a little help with sewing, or just want to learn sewing techniques, this is the meetup for you!
Modiste Michael and long time sewer and crafter Deb will be teaching the basics to anyone interested. We have 3 sewing machines available, but if you are able, please bring your own. If you're a moderately experienced sewer you're still welcome to join us, your knowledge would be very helpful :)
Due to the surprising volume of "yes" RSVP's to this event, we will be separating everyone into two groups. One group will be learning about how to follow a pattern (these (http://imgur.com/a/dCh7f) are the patterns we have available, some may still be available for purchase at JoAnns or Hancock Fabrics). The other group will have the option to learn about making minor alterations to existing clothing.
If we have time, we will switch to allow folks to learn a little bit about both.
---
A few people have asked what to bring. None of these things are required, but if you have them, please bring them with.
-
A sewing machine
-
Scissors. Please, if you have fabric scissors bring them with! I am left handed and the only pair I have is made for left handed people, most of you won't be very comfortable using them! :)
-
For the tote bag patterns please bring a fabric you like (we have some extra fabric, but if there is something particular you would like, please bring it). The largest tote pattern requires at the very most 2 yards.
-
For the alterations: Bring a very large t-shirt (a size or two bigger than what you'd want to wear) as well as a shirt you really like the fit of. You will be learning how to take in the larger shirt to the size you like.
-
Cloth measuring tape
-
Thread that suits the color of whatever project you're working on (for example, if you buy a blue t-shirt, make sure you have blue thread.) This one is not required, as we have a lot of thread, but would be nice if you have to take your project home to finish!
