Pele's Chair-Makapu'u Point Loop Hike
Details
Whale season is here! Makapu'u is one of the best areas to spot whales on Oahu so we shall try our luck. This trail offers great views of the Eastern shore as well as views all the way to Moloka'i and Lana'i on a clear day. The lighthouse is closed to the public.
You MUST wear steady closed-toe shoes to join this hike.
From the trailhead, we will get on a dirt trail to visit Pele's Chair, go up the rocky cliffs to the paved trail, enjoy Kodak-moments at the top viewpoint, go up another small rocky hill to check out pillboxes, and if the conditions allow, go down on the wild rocky side to get back to the parking.
There is very little shade. Bring plenty of WATER, sun protection and be careful with your footing because some sections are rocky and slippery with loose gravels. The event duration is approximate. It will depend on the hike speed and other conditions.
Recommended for the hike:
- Bring plenty of WATER and snacks to keep your energy going. There is very little shade.
- Must wear a pair of closed-toe shoes with good traction.
- Some rocky areas. Spikes may help, especially if it rains.
