R Wow Session and the Hadley Wickham ecosystem (reshape, plyr, ggplot2)

L'atelier sera donné en Anglais, mais nous serons disponible pour vous aider en Français.

L'atelier commencera par un très bref aperçu de la puissance de R et de son utilisation actuelle dans différents milieux (commercial, scientifique, humanitaire). L'atelier portera sur: -reshape: qui permet de changer le format d'un ensemble de donnés d'un format dit large (beaucoup de colonnes, peu de rangés, comme ce que nous collectons souvent sur le terrain) à un format long (un item par rangé ce qui est plus utile dans R) -plyr: qui permet de séparer les donnés en bloques, appliquer une fonction sur ces bloques et colmater le résultat (par exemple, calculer la pente d'un modèle linéaire pour chaque item). -ggplot: qui permet de construire des graphiques, étape par étape en utilisant la grammaire des graphiques Cet atelier se veut un moyen de rassembler des utilisateurs de tous les niveaux.

Wow Session:

Let us mesmerize you with an overview of what R can do and how people are using R to make the world a better place, to make money and have fun. This will be a very short presentation (15 minutes), followed by a few hands-on and social demos.

The Hadley Ecosystem:

We will give you a fly over of a few of the packages Hadley Wickham (http://had.co.nz) and his collaborators have created. Many of us now use these packages in every project we tackle and they have become an essential tool of the R enthusiast tool box. A brief tutorial providing the key features and how to implement them will be presented for each package, each followed by a hands on application exercise. Tips and trick for super users will also be provided.

-reshape (http://had.co.nz/reshape/): make your data play nice (Too many columns, no problem)

-plyr (http://plyr.had.co.nz): split/apply/combine (extract the slope of a linear model for each of your thousand replicates)

-ggplot2: the grammar of graphics (start with a basic plot and intuitively add layers of complexity)

This event is intended as a way to get to meet other people who are using R to do cool things. We are aiming to get a broad range of users from beginners to the R wizards out there.
