The Lemon Tree Project Pop-up Festival!

On Sunday 2nd June, The Lemon Tree Project Pop-up Festival at City Square, Melbourne (next to Melbourne Town Hall) will be held from 9-3pm.

The event aims to promote The Lemon Tree Project which has the following goals;

• To engage people in gardening and producing their own food;

• Promoting communities and neighbourhoods;

• Reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions through tree planting;

• To encourage sharing and learning in regards to healthy eating and food production.

The event will be hosted by Girl Guides Victoria & Melbourne City Council and has been sponsored by the ALCOA foundation. Approximately 4-5 stands will be set up with a number of community groups participating in the event. (Rooftop Honey, Girl Guides Victoria, Melbourne City Council).

My girls North Metro Monkey Rangers have been championing The Lemon Tree Project; on the day they will be dressed in Monkey Onesies and will be donating 500 citrus tree for our Melbourne Community to adopt. We will have ‘adoption’ forms so people will fill in the address where the trees will be planted so we can create a pin map of the trees around the city. Our hope is that the trees are planted in front yards or in community spaces (schools, libraries, apartment common areas/roof gardens etc.) so that the fruit can be shared with the community J
