We'll launch from Blackburn Point Park (pictured) and either go north up to Midnight Pass or down the ICW into Oscar Scherer State Park on South Creek. The group can decide which way to go, but if it is windy, we'll avoid the totally open water up to Midnight Pass and go to Oscar Scherer, just doing 2 miles of open water before entering the totally sheltered South Creek in OS (this creek has been low recently).
This will be our last paddle until next October : (
This is a shorter than usual paddle and there is a good place to take a break whichever direction we choose to go. You'll be in your cars by about noon.
DIRECTIONS: Driving north on Tamiami Trail / Highway 41, pass Oscar Scherer State Park on our right and go about 0.8 mile further to the first stop light...see Old Venice Rd on your right and Blackburn Point Rd. on your left. Turn left on Blackburn Point Rd. Go onlyabout one half mile and find the NOT OBVIOUS entrance to this small park on the left side of the road, just before crossing the ICW bridge. DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE.
Driving south on 41, Blackburn Point Rd is 0.8 mile south of Bay Ave. Follow above directions.
Only people who have read and agreed to the waiver of liability in writing can join us on paddles, therefore, there are no guests on paddles.
We'll be in the water at 10:00.
There are picnic tables and a porta potty at the Blackburn Point launch area. It's an extremely easy launch along the sandy/rocky beach
