ABOUT
Artificial intelligence has become so advanced it can recognize human emotions and predict our behavior. In a meetup organized by ALAN Analytics, our technology and humanities experts and partners will offer innovative ideas on how to use this enormous power for good. Three 20 minute talks will be followed by a moderated Q&A session. The event is organized and curated by BIRD Incubator, Justin Lane (CTO/ Co-founder, ALAN Analytics), Maja Roknić (Product Manager, ALAN Analytics), and Srđan Laterza (an independent creative director).
AGENDA

Can wisdom of the crowds be used to predict the market? By Vuk Vukovic
Using the wisdom of the crowd has helped us predict a wide variety of things. However, using it to predict the markets is relatively new. New approaches to analysing data from real-world social networks may provide useful insight into how markets might move in the future. In his talk, Vuk will discuss new work being done to predict stock and cryptocurrency prices using surveys of real-world trading desks. -
When a crisis happens, how can AI help? By Igor Miklousic
When a crisis happens, we often turn to our close friends and families for support, relying on deeply evolved tendencies to connect with our family to get through hard times. In the last year, Croatia experienced waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, where most were locked down with their families to stop the spread of the virus. During a critical period of lockdown, an earthquake struck, destroying the safest place for many, particularly children. In this presentation, Igor will present how we can use science to better understand the effects of these crises on individuals, particularly children, and how this scientific approach can help us in the future. He’ll ask the question: When this happens, how can AI help? -
Can AI learn to understand emotions? By Justin E. Lane
The use of AI for text analysis has been stuck with sentiment analysis for over a decade. Positive and negative sentiment have been one of the most frequent AI tools used by businesses, but profiling text data can produce much much more. Text can reveal not only emotions, but values, morals, market segment, political alignments, and personality. This data can allow online communication to create meaningful narratives that engage millions and can help companies to avoid damaging mistakes. Justin Lane will discuss what the forefront of AI can do to help us better understand the massive amounts of online data and how everyday text data can be transformed into a gold mine of insights that help us to tackle social issues ranging from marketing to new cultures to immigration and extremism.
