Fast Prototyping with HAML, SASS, Compass, and Middleman
Details
HAML (http://haml-lang.com/), and SASS (http://sass-lang.com/) have become staples in the Ruby world. The new 3.1 release separated them into their own gems and has added some new useful new features to SASS. Now with Rails 3.1, SASS will be available by default. In addition, Compass (http://compass-style.org/) adds some useful helpers to SASS as well as adding wrappers for many popular CSS frameworks – the right way. Middleman (https://github.com/tdreyno/middleman/) adds some glue and helpers via Sinatra (http://www.sinatrarb.com/) and Padrino (http://www.padrinorb.com/) to quickly build prototypes and templates. Middleman also allows you to build your own helpers, and starting points. From there you can generate HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and compressed images that can be used on any platform you want.
About The Presenter
Alex Lemanski started out life as Designer but found he was better at and enjoyed development more than Design. He enjoys building everything from HTML to Ruby. He’s also and avid home brewer. He currently works as a Web Developer for Trilogy Interactive (http://www.trilogyinteractive.com/). His sorely out dated site can be found at Bitfyre (http://bitfyre.net/), but you can find him more frequently on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/bitfyre).
