What the heck is that song??
Details
Help us kick off the summer right at our next music party! The theme for the evening is:
What the Heck is That Song?
"One Hit Wonders" - songs we all love and remember, from artists we have mostly forgotten
"New and Original by Us!" - new songs or creative arrangements composed by collaborative members
"Musica Obscura" - songs you love that you think most people have never heard
"One Hit Wonders" can be from any genre or decade. To get the creative process started, Steve created a "One Hit Wonder" playlist on the wonderful music streaming/sharing service Spotify. This can become a Collaborative Playlist among multiple Spotify Users. If you don't know Spotify, you should - Steve would be pleased to offer a tutorial. Check out the playlist at One Hit Wonders (http://open.spotify.com/user/sgeorges3/playlist/29NDdN1VQqCQTeZOMBn0md) .
"New and Original by Us!" speaks for itself. A core part of our mission is to encourage our members to stretch their musical wings. Whether its a polished composition of your own that you have performed before, or a work in progress, we promise a safe and encouraging family to cheer you on.
"Musica Obscura" might include: beautiful songs from obscure musicals; folk songs never recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary; a rock song recorded in Uzbekistan that you have on a black market vinyl import from the 1970's; or a classical piece you are just dying to share.
WHAT TO BRING:
Please your instruments*, $10 (to cover the cost of space rental), and a song or two. Also, please bring either a snack or drink to share, or toss an extra $5 in the basket to help cover the cost of what we will provide in food and beverage.
Important Note: We are responding to concerns about high volume expressed after our last 2 parties. We need to provide spaces for both music and conversation, so we will put the food and beverage out in the hall space. Also, we are planning to split the evening. The earlier portion limited to acapella, acoustic, or "lightly" plugged in (i.e. softer) music. Later in the evening (after 8:30) we can pump it up and rock it out if we want to.
As with past meet-ups a sign-up sheet will be distributed as we get closer to the event. You can participate in two ways.
1)Performance style - you perform as a solo or collaborate with one or more musicians from EA and play as a closed group
2) Jam style - you lead a jam with the idea of engaging most other musicians in the room, open style or directed (e.g., I'd like the congas to play on beats '2' and '4' of each measure.)
Music slots will go from 6:20 to 9:50pm, 10 minutes each. The 10 minutes includes your setup time (alternatively, you can come at 6:00 to the party to set up equipment).
