Legal mind about Cryptokitties phenomenon
Rieke Smakman is a Dutch lawyer (advocaat) and partner of Oostwaard Advocaten in Hilversum. She is a commercial and corporate litigator and transactional lawyer, with a special interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Rieke recently tweeted (https://twitter.com/Rieke/status/939046321364881408) that a phenomenon like Cryptokitties (a non-fungible digital token) sets her legal mind in overdrive and we’ve invited her to explain why.
Who am I?
A regular speaker at Bitcoin and blockchain conferences throughout Europe, I has been helping share the truth, freedom, and choice that Bitcoin and its partner platforms have to offer since 2014. The most recent example of this was through BITNATION’s refugee aid that won two awards (including the grand prix) at the UNESCO Nexplo 2017 forum, a project that I helped bring to life in 2015.

I am an advocate of P2P and decentralization in an otherwise centralized world. Furthermore I have also presented the technological benefits of decentralised services and tools in EU Commission as well as being an advisor for the EU Commission initiative held in Berlin - European Social Innovation Competition.
