Are We Supposed to Forgive What Happened in Newtown?

Details

A central tenant of the Course is that the only way to achieve enlightenment is to forgive everyone. OK, I can forgive someone who supposedly wronged me, but I’ve also raised two children and the thought of them being murdered at age 6 is so terrifying that I can’t watch anything on the news that might show one of the parents in Newtown. But what are the limits of forgiveness? In all the pain, confusion and terror of experiencing something horrific, the Course doesn’t ask us outright to forgive. It only asks us to consider a tiny opening in terms of finding forgiveness. The rest we must surrender to and ask for God’s guidance. But what does that mean and just how are we supposed to do that?
