The Treachery of Forgiveness

The Course says, “No gift of Heaven has been more misunderstood than forgiveness.” As a matter of fact, most forgiveness is considered “forgiveness to destroy” because for the most part, we forgive when we feel another has wronged us, and if this earthly, egoic life isn’t real, how could they have wronged us? Instead of forgiveness becoming a pathway to enlightenment, in its most common usage, it actually and deceivingly strengthens our egos. That’s because we decide to overlook another’s transgression, which is our way of judging that person, and at the same time, making ourselves the better person by rising above the other with pride-filled forgiveness. True forgiveness completely erases the boundaries of You and I. It eliminates the difference between us and it’s only when we can experience the other as ourselves that we can truly be liberated.

It is not necessary to read the book or have any prior knowledge of A Course in Miracles to participate and appreciate our discussion.
