Götterdämmerung translates as "The Twilight of the Gods." Hero Siegfried, owner of the Ring, with Brünnhilde as his bride, was intended by Wotan to save the gods from their fate. But the Ring still carries Alberich's curse (whoever owns the Ring will die), and enemies seek to acquire it in the concluding singspiel of the 15-hour tetrology. Note 1: The Ring Cycle ends with purification of the corrupt gods by fire. The gold returns to the the Rhine maidens, nature is refreshed, and we're back at the beginning. Hence the term "cycle."

Pedantic note: technically the Ring Cycle is not a tetrology, as all operas/singspiels are not equal. More accurately, there is a prelude (Das Rheingold), followed by a trilogy: Die Walkure, Siegfried, and Götterdämmerung. I think.
