Introduction to Docker

Details

We are very pleased to present special guests Jana Rajakumar and Monica Ung and Chul Hee Yoon from the University of Toronto Libraries ITS Department, who will be leading a hands-on beginner Docker workshop.

Jana, Monica & Chul will show you how to spin up popular software stacks and work environments that you use every day. Register to stay tuned for a survey where we’ll ask you what you use so we can include them in the workshop!

----------------------------------------

Not sure if it's meant for you? Then do any of these apply to you:

*Ever wanted to quickly set up and try out a software (ex: Wikibase, Fedora, Drupal, Python, etc) but didn’t have the technical expertise or infrastructure?

*Ever struggled with a mix of different versions of the same programming languages or software on the same computer? (Or had trouble downgrading or upgrading versions?)

*Ever got something working on your computer but it didn’t work on your colleague’s machine?

----------------------------------------

Workshop Agenda:

Why Docker?

  • What are the issues that Docker addresses?
  • What are the advantages of using Docker?

What is Docker?

  • We will demystify what Docker is and how to use it!

----------------------------------------

What do you need?

  • Laptop (Windows, Mac, and Linux are all welcomed)
  • Docker installed before the workshop is recommended (or you can come in 15 minutes early and we can help you set it up)
