Partner Power Hour: I'm a Code School Grad! (...now what?)

Partner Power Hour: I'm a Code School Grad! (...now what?)

Details

Transitioning from code school to industry is tricky - it requires understanding what employers want and how to attract their attention as a serious candidate and keeping it through offer acceptance. That transition is a vulnerable time for any fresh grad, and it's easy to get discouraged when it feels like you aren't gaining any traction in your job search. Most code school grads go through these 'growing pains' - this Partner Power Hour will seek to help short-circuit those challenges for you.

Gwen will discuss her experience of moving from Code Fellows graduate to Slalom software engineer and share some frustrations, successes, tricks, and other lessons she learned along the way. Come prepared to share your concerns and ask the questions that we're all afraid to ask.

About the presenter:

Gwen carved out her engineering career developing physical products for (mostly) defense and aerospace. In her past life, she found success in building underwater ‘toys’ for US Navy divers and leading engineering teams through airplane and heavy equipment product development. A voracious learner and persistent doer, she earned credentials in mechanical engineering (at UT-Austin) and engineering leadership (at UW); she’s recently added coding skills (at Code Fellows) to round out her engineering toolbelt. Gwen is stoked to kickstart a new phase of her engineering career as a Software Engineer at Slalom Build.

Gwen is recently married with 3 adult children. She is an extrovert (ENTP) who loves people, dogs, horsepower, and scotch – she is eager to make new connections and welcomes your friendly introduction!
