SANFORDS 2ND ANNUAL HISTORICAL GHOST TOUR & INVESTIGATION / ATLEAST 16 OR OLDER
Details
The RIP HUNTERS were asked last year by some of the retailers of Historical Downtown Sanford to help them with a huge amount of paranormal activity that has been going on for years. When we went to talk with some of the business owners it was obvious that this was much bigger than we had ever imagined because of all the history behind the downtown Sanford area. This snowballed into the First Annual Downtown Sanford Historical Ghost Tour & Investigation. Some of the history of Sanford includes the first and only legal hanging in Seminole County behind the Old Fire Station of a man that shot a young sheriff and was tried and hung for stealing a pair of pants and the shooting. His spirit is very strong and we were fortunate enough to take our RIP TEAM to the OLD FIRE STATION ( which is now the residents of Barbara Farrell a famous international artist) and do a private investigation for her and his spirit and many others are still very strong and present in that building. Also Ft. Melon in that area was a major post during the Seminole Indian Wars in Sanford. Many soldiers and indians died in that area of Sanford.
Fort Mellon (1836-1842) - First established as Camp Monroe (http://fortwiki.com/Camp_Monroe) in December 1836 during the Second Seminole War (http://fortwiki.com/Seminole_War_II)by Ltc. Alexander C.W. Fanning (http://fortwiki.com/Alexander_C.W._Fanning) and 300 troops. Renamed Fort Mellon on 9 Feb 1837 after Capt. Charles Mellon (http://fortwiki.com/index.php?title=Charles_Mellon&action=edit), who was killed in a Indian attack on Camp Monroe (http://fortwiki.com/Camp_Monroe), 8 Feb 1837. Finally abandoned in 1842. Also known as Fort Fanning (http://fortwiki.com/Fort_Fanning).

Fort Mellon History
First established as Camp Monroe (http://fortwiki.com/Camp_Monroe)in December 1836 by Ltc. Alexander C.W. Fanning (http://fortwiki.com/Alexander_C.W._Fanning) and 300 troops that included three companies of artillery, four companies of Dragoons and others. The post was attacked by hostile Seminole Indians on 8 Feb 1837 and Capt. Charles Mellon (http://fortwiki.com/index.php?title=Charles_Mellon&action=edit)was the sole U.S. casualty of the attack. The post was named for him the next day by Ltc. Alexander C.W. Fanning (http://fortwiki.com/Alexander_C.W._Fanning). The fort was abandoned about 15 Jun 1837 because of sickness among the troops and the hostile Seminole Indians burned everything burnable.
Fort Mellon was ordered reoccupied on 4 Nov 1837 and it became a supply depot for area posts. The post was finally abandoned 27 May 1842. There are many more stories of paranormal activity from this area. Check out the history online and you will be amazed. Since our first ghost tour last year we have done 6 private investigations in that area with a huge amount of activity in every location. You will not want to miss this oppurtunity.
